Dr. Stanley Paris and his companions cycled through Phoenix on a sunny, seasonably warm day. Tan and only a bit tired, the riders were already on day five of their 30-day, 3,000-mile journey from San Diego, California, to St. Augustine, Florida. Why take on such a grueling challenge? To raise funds and awareness for the Foundation for Physical Therapy, a cause we wholeheartedly believe in.

In addition to our continued financial support of the Foundation for PT, we wanted to assist the riders however we could. As the group pulled up to the head of the Greenway Channel Trail on Tuesday, we greeted the riders with water, Gatorade, and healthy snacks to keep them fueled.

And they’re off on the next leg of their journey!

We were happy to contribute in some small way, but Dr. Paris and his companions are in for a long haul—and they need your help. To support the Ride for PT Research, you can volunteer along the way, join the ride, or make a donation.

Top 3 Takeaways from CSM 2016

With record attendance—more than 11,000 rehab therapy professionals from all over the US—CSM 2016 in Anaheim, California, was abuzz with energy and enthusiasm. When I wasn’t running around in search of folks wearing “I heart PT” buttons so I could give them prizes (did you catch us on Gene Shirokobrod’s Periscope?), I was busy attending sessions in the Private Practice track. I made it to eight fantastic presentations—and wished I could have seen more. If you were …

All that Jazz: Top Takeaways from PPS 2017

As I pulled my scarf high up over my wind-chapped cheeks, dodged a car that nearly hit me as I made my way across the crosswalk, and heard the L train rattle the platform above my head, it wasn’t hard to imagine the likes of Al Capone or John Dillinger leading police on a wild goose chase through downtown Chicago. There’s no doubt that the Windy City is rich with history, but last week, Chi-Town was abuzz …

6 Biggest Takeaways from PPS 2015

Last week, I joined hundreds of amazing physical therapy professionals, students, and vendors (including yours truly, WebPT) at this year's PPS Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. Despite the uncomfortable combination of tropical heat and humidity outside—and near-freezing conference rooms inside—everyone was in high spirits. Though I never made it to Disney World, I still felt like I was in the most magical place on Earth, thanks to the inspiring and informative presentations I saw and the thought-provoking …

Think Big, Think Differently: 6 Bits of Inspiration from Ascend 2017

The overarching theme of Ascend 2017 —the fourth-annual installment of rehab therapy’s premier business summit—was, quite simply, “Think big.” But, based on what we learned from our esteemed group of speakers over the course of two inspiration-filled days in Washington, DC, a more accurate tagline for this year’s conference might have been, “Think differently.” After all, in a field as complex as health care, grand aspirations are not enough. To solve the problems plaguing this industry, we …

    Top Takeaways From #AscendEvent 2018

This was my first year attending WebPT’s Ascend conference , and I wasn’t sure what to expect. A business conference? For PTs? It was exciting and intriguing. I also received carte blanche to write an entire blog post around my own experiences at the conference, which is an absolute dream come true! And, as a non-traditional, non-practicing physical therapist, I knew my experience would be very different from others’. So, I packed my bags and braced myself …

Final Thoughts from CSM: Outcomes, Payment Reform, and—Purple Cows?

By Saturday morning, attendees of the APTA’s Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) were moving with a little less pep in their step—and a couple extra shots of espresso in their morning coffee. Still, the educational sessions on the final day of CSM were chock full of eager learners looking to eat up a few more morsels of wisdom before catching their planes home from Indy. Here are some highlights from day three’s informational smorgasbord (check out recaps from …

    Ascend 2014 in My Shoes

I had the great pleasure of participating in the  WebPT Ascend Conference in Dallas, Texas, on September 20. Ascend was a one-day educational event focused on helping PTs, OTs, and SLPs succeed in business. The conference offered two learning tracks to choose from—one tailored to starting a PT, OT, or SLP practice and the other geared toward growing an existing one. Ascend was billed as the ultimate rehab therapy business summit, and it did not disappoint. The …
