The California Physical Therapy Association (CPTA) 2010 annual conference was held in Oakland, California this year and was very well attended with 909 participants, which was over a 100 more than the 2009 conference held in Pasadena.
WebPT was well represented in the Exhibit Hall along with over 100 other vendors. We were one of 12 companies participating in a traffic builder, in which attendees were asked to get “stamps” from these 12 vendors on a card and then turn the card in for a prize drawing. It was a great way to meet some potential attendees that may not have known that they were really looking for a better way to complete their documentation.
We also were fortunate to meet some of our members face to face. Being a SaaS (web-based software) company, most of our sales are completed online. We enjoy putting names to faces and hearing all of the fabulous feedback from our members. They also come with some great ideas that we are able to take back to the development team as potential tweaks to the application making it more functional for our users.
One of the presentation highlights was the program by Tim Flynn in the orthopedic section titled “Expert Musculoskeletal Care – Physical Therapists role in US Healthcare.” He reinforced a mantra of mine that PTs need to step up their role as the ‘muculoskeletal experts’ in the medical industry. With several articles of evidence demonstrating the need for physical therapy, specifically using manual therapy techniques, Tim skillfully built his case of the need of PTs in the role for managing high volume musculoskeletal disorders such as Low back pain (LBP), chronic pain, neck pain, and Osteoarthritis (OA) or the hip and knee.
Unlike other state shows that WebPT has attended, CPTA takes care of its vendors offering a significant amount of time for its attendees to browse the Exhibit Hall without the fear of missing lunch or another speaker presentation. As a business partner, WebPT leverages the strength of the CPTA with California being our 3rd largest represented state in the US.
