Today, I want to take a moment to wish you an incredibly happy and prosperous National Physical Therapy Month. May you continue to make a positive difference in the lives of your patients by improving their health, their mobility, and their confidence. And while you’re doing so, may you also pat yourself—and your staff and your peers—on the back, because you are all making the world a better place, one day—and one patient visit—at a time.

This month is dedicated to you, us, and our industry. Because we matter. We matter to our patients, to each other, and to the world. October is a month of greatness—a month to embrace our power as therapists and be proud of how far we’ve come and where we’re going. It’s time to shout it from the rooftops and let others know what we do, what we stand for, and how we contribute to the medical industry.

We love what we do, but it isn’t always easy. After all, we’re at a formative time in our profession. I know that you face challenges in both your daily clinic operations and on a larger scale as you deal with a constant stream of regulatory changes. But this time of flux also is one of opportunity. With the growing population of the elderly, obese, and diabetic, we as therapists have one of the most important roles in health care today.

So, right now, take a moment to revel in the awesomeness of what it means to be a PT—and trust that we’ll overcome the challenges as they come. We are, after all, therapists. We’re the musculoskeletal experts of health care, the people who restore, maintain, and enhance quality of life. So, let’s make October a month of thankfulness—of gratefulness—for the opportunities that we have to help people and demonstrate our value. Ultimately, we will prevail, and we will make more of a positive impact than ever before. Let’s stand up for ourselves, be leaders, and focus on greatness. Happy National Physical Therapy Month!
