You wake up and check Facebook before you’ve even had your morning coffee. You scroll through Twitter on your lunch break. You peruse the discussions unfolding on your LinkedIn groups before you go to bed. Let’s face it: we’re addicted to social media. Of course, liking your friends’ vacation photos in your spare time is far different than enticing people to become patients at your practice. Ultimately, people interact differently with brands than they do with their “friends.” Still, everyone—from industry titans to local mom-and-pops—is doing it. But are they doing it right? And more importantly, is it benefiting their businesses?

Join WebPT founder and COO Heidi Jannenga and marketing director Mike Manheimer as they examine social media use from a rehab therapy business perspective. In addition to discussing popular platforms and strategies, they’ll hash out whether social media is genuinely worthwhile for those in the PT industry.

Want to set up social media profiles for your business? Here are some how-tos:

The Bare-Bones Social Media Guide for PT Clinics

I’ll admit it: during the first five years of my career, I was extremely opposed to using social media. I felt uncomfortable when patients asked to friend me on Facebook, and I got nervous about employers checking in on my personal life. Along the way, though, I was forced to change my tune. When I launched my non-clinical physical therapy career as a copywriter and entrepreneur, I had to learn the art of self-promotion. As PTs, we’re …

How Much Time Should I Devote to Social Media?

We’ve provided a lot of advice about social media on our blog this month, addressing everything from visuals to negative comments. Now that the month’s coming to a close, let’s ask the question on everyone’s mind: “How much time do I need to devote to social media?” I could end this blog post right now and give the safe response: “You should devote whatever amount of time you feel is necessary to achieve your goals.” But that’s …

How Your Patients are Stalking You Online—and Why That’s a Good Thing

Did you know the average American spends way more time scouring the Internet for medical information than consulting with an actual medical professional? So says Makovsky, a Public Relations firm in NYC, and Kelton, a global research and consultancy firm, in their article titled, “Online Health Research Eclipsing Patient-Doctor Conversations.” These two companies conducted their third annual US survey in July 2013, polling 1,067 Americans ages 18 and older. Founder Letter: 4 Predictions for PTs, OTs, and SLPs in 2017

Last year, I laid out a handful of predictions for 2016 —and what do you know? Most of them were spot on. In fact, much of what I covered—think interoperability, the importance of data collection, payment reform, and the push toward private practice consolidation—are all holding strong and will surely continue into 2017 (well, barring any unforeseeable curveballs to the state of health care as we know it, that is). In the meantime, though, here’s what I …
