Creating a simple pair of orthotics is a deceivingly arduous task—if you do it the traditional way, that is. Often, the process involves multiple providers, astronomical costs, and lots of cold, sticky plaster. But it doesn’t have to be like that; we live in the age of tech, after all. That’s why we’re excited to announce our partnership with SOLS, a pioneering company in the emerging industry of 3D-printed foot orthotics.

Thanks to this partnership—and SOLS’s innovative technology—WebPT Members can say goodbye to plaster and hello to hassle-free custom foot orthotics. All they have to do is purchase the SOLS technology through the WebPT Marketplace—at a special discounted price, of course—and they’ll receive an iPad with a built-in app that allows them to capture thousands of data points with six images. Once the Member submits that data, SOLS creates the orthotics using 3D printing technology and NASA-grade nylon; then, SOLS ships the product to the provider’s office within a week.

WebPT’s own Heidi Jannenga is especially proud of this partnership because it allows her the opportunity to collaborate with another female tech leader: SOLS founder and CEO, Kegan Schouwenburg. “SOLS is revolutionizing the foot orthotics industry, and WebPT prides itself in developing technology that has the potential to disrupt the status quo in health care,” Jannenga said. “That’s why I'm excited to help introduce this innovative company to the physical therapy industry. I'm also personally proud to work with another trailblazing woman executive.”

SOLS definitely captured the heart and “SOL” of WebPT, and we’re confident they’ll capture yours, too. Head over to the WebPT Marketplace (click the shopping cart icon once you’ve logged in) or the SOLS website to find out more.

    Wallpaper: Move. Restore. Revive.

It’s officially summer—and that means ’tis the season for movement. Across the country, people young and old are lacing up their hiking boots, pumping up their bike tires, and packing their beach bags. But for some folks, musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction stand in the way of summer fun—which means this is also the season to celebrate the amazing work rehab therapists do to help get people back to the warm-weather activities they love. In that spirit, we’ve …

Is PT Valuable? Why Outcomes Data is the Proof We Need

In this day and age, it seems like everybody wants more for less—and that’s certainly true in the healthcare realm. With nationwide reform efforts pushing providers to deliver higher-quality care at a lower cost, value—and the ability to prove it—is absolutely critical. Most rehab therapists will tell you the services they provide are more valuable than anyone knows. And that’s precisely the problem. No one knows the value of physical and occupational therapy. But outcomes tracking can …

The Ultimate ICD-10 FAQ: Part Deux

Just when we thought we’d gotten every ICD-10 question under the sun, we got, well, more questions. Like, a lot more. But, we take that as a good sign, because like a scrappy reporter trying to get to the bottom of a big story, our audience of blog readers and webinar attendees aren’t afraid to ask the tough questions—which means they’re serious about preparing themselves for the changes ahead. And we’re equally serious about providing them with …

    Do You Dry Needle?

According to the APTA , many providers consider dry needling “a safe, easy-to-learn, minimally discomforting, and often-effective technique for patients with certain presentations.” Yet, it remains a controversial practice. Much of the concern lies in the fact that this modality involves piercing the skin; many acupuncturists would argue that PTs don’t have the expertise to perform this type of manual therapy. However, many physical therapists argue that even though the needles they use for dry needling are …

Channeling Your Inner Chuck Norris: How to Master the Art of Outcomes

When I was growing up, I stayed at my grandparents house after school. This meant I spent the better part of my youth tuning into whatever my grandpa watched on TV. And because he watched a lot of Walker, Texas Ranger, I watched a lot of Walker, Texas Ranger. Chuck Norris was basically my afterschool nanny. (Don’t tell him I said that.) Each afternoon, I watched this karate-kicking cowboy fight off bad guy after bad guy. He …
