In 2006, while Brad and I were driving home from Prescott, Arizona, we mapped out the idea for WebPT on the back of an envelope. Back then, we simply were trying to develop a documentation solution for my practice. I never imagined that in eight years, the ambitious startup we launched and ran out of the back of a coffee shop would grow into something so significant. Today, more than 30,000 therapy professionals and 6,000 therapy practices trust WebPT every day for their documentation and practice management needs. Some of you have been with us since our launch at CSM 2008 in Nashville; some of you only recently ditched the pen and paper to go digital with us. But you’re all trailblazers—early adopters helping to lead the physical therapy industry into the digital age.

Elevating the profession has been our company’s focus—and my personal passion—since the start. From day one, we’ve been dedicated to the industry we have the honor of serving—and dedicated to helping therapists achieve greatness in practice. Your success is our success, and through that success, we elevate our profession together. That’s why today is special not only for WebPT, but also for you—our Members and private practice therapists across the country.

Today we announced our acceptance of a significant investment from Battery Ventures, a nationally-recognized firm known for backing some very successful technology companies (like Groupon, Marketo, Brightree, and ExactTarget). We are proud to partner with such an experienced investor, and I am especially proud to see a firm—one with a proven track record for supporting high-growth technology companies—invest in rehab therapy. WebPT is forever committed to physical, occupational, and speech therapists. With this investment, we’ll continue our mission to innovate and to provide you with the most cutting-edge technology on the market and the most dedicated team to help you succeed.

As always, I will continue to drive our product strategy and oversee the WebPT brand vision as the company’s chief operating officer. My husband, Brad, will remain WebPT’s president and chief technology officer, and Paul Winandy will continue to lead our team as chief executive officer. I have the utmost confidence in our leadership team, our staff, and our new partner, Battery Ventures. Our deep industry experience, combined with the added firepower Battery provides, will enable us to keep innovating, pushing the envelope, and elevating our great profession.

This investment proves what WebPT and our Members already know: rehab therapists are uniquely poised to make a dramatic impact on health care in the coming years. With this financial backing, we can solidify our place as rehab therapy’s true tech partner. We built this business on a foundation of listening to our user community—our Members—and we will continue to innovate and deliver the solutions you need. We will continue to empower therapists to change the industry for the better, never wavering in our dedication to this amazing profession. This is our legacy and we intend to make it a damn good one—with you, our Members, by our side. Buckle up because we’ve got plenty more trail to blaze.

Founder Letter: Giving Back and Moving Forward: How Disaster Relief is Changing Rehab Therapy for the Better

’Tis officially the holiday season—a time for sharing meals with friends and family, reflecting on the year that’s passed, and setting goals and intentions for positive change in the year ahead. For me, this season always feels ripe with possibility—like I can accomplish anything I set my mind (and heart) to. This year, I’m channeling those positive vibes into #RehabTherapistsGiveBack —the movement to help individuals, families, and communities impacted by the recent hurricanes and wildfires that devastated …

The Roaring 2020s: Why We’re Entering Rehab Therapy’s Greatest Era

High out-of-pocket costs. Inefficient care paths. Market Consolidation. Unfair payer and government policy. I could probably draw out this list for several paragraphs, but you get the idea—there’s a lot that we, as rehab therapists, are up against. And most of it is seemingly out of our control. If you pay attention to politics—and with the next election cycle already taking over national news headlines, it’s kind of hard not to—then you know that debate over healthcare …

Founder Letter: Stability in the Midst of Chaos: Celebrating 10 Years

As a general rule, I do my best to steer clear of politics in these letters. Aside from pushing for pro-PT legislation, I keep my views on party lines to myself. After all, beyond the individuals elected, the goal of our democratic government has always been to work together to find solutions that serve the greater good. Now, we’ve had government shutdowns before—sadly enough. But the three-day shutdown that happened at the end of January was particularly …

    My Favorite Moments of 2014

Holy lightning-fast 2014, Batman! I can’t believe that it’s almost time to ring in 2015. But before I Auld Lang Syne 2014 and map out my new year's resolutions, I’m going to reflect on this past year, because, honestly, it was a monumental one for me—both personally and professionally. Here are my highlights: Inc. 500 Two Years Running In 2013, WebPT ranked as #233 on Inc. 500’s list of the fastest-growing companies in the United States. The …

    Founder Letter: Embrace Innovation

In a few weeks, I’ll have the pleasure of speaking at American Express’s Journey of Innovation, where I’ll elaborate on how innovation has monumentally changed my life, how it influenced the WebPT company culture, and how it will continue to play a role in my future as well as WebPT’s. I’ve spoken on these topics before, and I’m sure I will speak about them again. After all, innovation is not only extremely important, but it’s also an …

Founder Letter: Is the World Ready to #ChoosePT?

Fall is officially here—and all across the country, people are enjoying cozy sweaters, crisp mornings, and pumpkin spice lattes. For those of us in the physical therapy space, fall brings another exciting seasonal ritual: National Physical Therapy Month (NPTM) . Each October, the PT community—led by the APTA—unites around a specific theme as we celebrate and promote our profession. In an effort to bring even more attention to its #ChoosePT campaign, the APTA has decided to make …

5 Things PTs Need to Know About Telehealth in 2016

In 2015, lawmakers at both the federal and state levels recognized—and took action to alleviate—the lack of readily available and affordable healthcare options: namely, through legislation that opened the door for telehealth expansion. In fact, this Medscape article reveals that in the last year alone, “200 bills addressing telehealth were introduced in 42 states.” That’s a lot of legislative legwork. And while we can’t shrink and teleport healthcare providers through a television— Willy Wonka-style —quite yet, the …
