Business Challenge
Ryan DeWitt started DeWitt Physical Therapy in April 2011 in Santa Cruz, CA. His start up clinic is a two-person team. Ryan DeWitt is the sole treating therapist and his office manager assists him with administrative tasks. DeWitt Physical Therapy is an outpatient orthopedic clinic, which focuses on sports medicine and spinal conditions. Ryan grew up in Santa Cruz and opening a clinic in his hometown to serve his local community was a dream of his.
Part of his dream, was his desire open a clinic that was very progressive in its treatments and in its mindset. Ryan worked in two different outpatient facilities prior to opening DeWitt Physical Therapy. As he describes it, “there was paper everywhere!” The facilities that Ryan worked in were not technologically integrated and he was often frustrated by the inability to have all of his needs in one place.
As a start-up clinic, Ryan also had limited space available at his facility. Ryan didn’t have room for file storage and wanted as little paper to keep track of as possible. He needed a system without servers to maintain that could also work on his Apple products. As an avid user of Apple computers, Ryan wanted a system that worked with his technological preferences.
Solution
As Ryan narrowed down his search to meet all of his needs, he stumbled upon WebPT in a physical therapy publication. Ryan was done with the mass of paper, charts, folders, reports, he had experienced in his prior roles. He felt that running a clinic on paper didn’t represent him as a therapist and the whole process was wasteful and frustrating. He wanted a clean start to his new clinic without transitioning from a paper-based clinic.
As I looked into it more, it just made sense: no server, no IT, no updates to buy, web based, compliant, simple interface and features were being constantly added. I really felt it would serve the needs of my practice and was grinning during the demo.
Benefits

The freedom to complete notes when and where he needs to and avoid issues with handwriting readability was a huge benefit for him.
Ryan DeWitt also knew that referrals were going to be a big part of making his clinic successful. He needed a system that made communication between his clinic and his referral sources very easy. He also knew that tracking his referral sources was going to important in his administrative actions and marketing his practice. WebPT allows Ryan to fax professional documentation directly to his referral sources, which greatly cut down on admin tasks and made his clinic look progressive to physicians.
So many tasks that were before tedious are now just a click away. Also, if I have any questions, I have been very happy with the support I receive should I have a question or problem. I appreciate the constant improvements and updates that are made to the system.
