As a therapist for 19 years, Randy has truly done it all. He’s worked for large corporate clinics, small private practices, and everything in between. Born out of a need to be independent he founded Aldridge Physical Therapy four years ago.
Originally, Randy opened his clinic as just a one-man show and leased space in a fitness center. Today, Aldridge Physical Therapy has grown to two therapists and one front office staff. They also have a part-time biller. “We’re small, and I like it that way,” says Randy. Owning his own business Randy is able to treat patients the way he wants and make his own decisions.
Something we didn’t know about Randy? He treated patients in Africa once! One of the more interesting types of cases? Lion bites.
Before using WebPT, Randy would enter all of his own claims to BlueCross / BlueShield. He wrote his schedule on a real calendar. His handwritten, paper documentation was not the most legible. Even as just one person, he was filling up boxes of charts. Randy says, “As a small business, I had no efficiency.” Just to fax Randy had to pull charts and fill out fax cover sheets. It was “less than a gold standard” in terms of quality. Randy had experience using EMRs and he knew he needed to be in a better place.
For Randy, that better place was with WebPT. His schedule now ties to his chart and contact information. He loves the ability to fax directly from the system. “I could finish a note, push a few buttons and send a fax. I could document from my home if I didn’t get my notes done. That’s one reason why I love the web-based model; I could look at reports from home.” Inefficiency issues solved.
The reporting has been a huge benefit to Randy. Before using WebPT, he had no data on his practice. Now he has information and can make informed business decisions. In a small business, it’s huge to have just a laptop and be ready to go. “I got a great product with little upfront investment,” he says.
Having used a few EMRs in the past, he knew that a therapy-based system was the best way to go. Randy says, “When you use it, you know it was created for therapists. It flows. It makes sense. It’s easy to navigate.”
Randy is also happy that WebPT keeps Aldridge Physical Therapy in compliance. The fact that WebPT maintains outcome measures and produces compliant notes is peace of mind for Randy and his staff.
During the first year that Aldridge Physical Therapy was with WebPT, they were paying for a full-time billing person. The big benefit in the payment cycle came when they switched to Kareo (which is integrated with WebPT). The accounts receivable days went down dramatically after the switch. The integration and added efficiency has saved Randy about $800 per month.
I’ve even had a patient compliment me on the accuracy and clarity of the bill. He told me he’s a big fan of our billing process because everything is so easy to read.
For a small, rural practice to have such an elevated level of quality and professionalism is huge for the Aldridge Physical Therapy team. When the patients notice the quality of the documentation, you have something special. As Randy says, “It’s a no-brainer.”
