Note: Each month, we will feature a different member of the WebPT family in our new Staff Spotlight blog series.Growing up on his grandfather’s farm in eastern Tennessee, Mike Clevenger learned the value of a hard day’s work at a very young age. “We had days where the entire family—60 or 70 people with all of the grandkids—would come together, and we had to vaccinate all of my grandfather’s cattle,” he said. “That’s about 300 head of cattle, going one by one. I learned a lot about hard work and teamwork.”
Mike has since traded his boots and overalls for a headset and a computer screen, but his exceptional work ethic remains unchanged. As a Senior Training Representative in WebPT’s Member Care department, Mike now spends his days helping Members learn all the ins and outs of the WebPT application—which is kind of perfect, because he was always naturally drawn to teaching.
“When I was a kid, I wanted to be a teacher,” he said. “But my career path led me to corporate training, which is pretty much the next best thing.”
Before joining the WebPT family, Mike worked as a new hire trainer for Marriott International and as an insurance agent for both Progressive and Travelers. Those positions allowed him to hone his people skills in a business setting, but it’s his innate desire to lend a hand—anytime, anywhere, and to anyone—that makes him such a great fit in his job role at WebPT.

Following the progress of Gaby Giffords on her path to recovery has been inspiring! The former Arizona congresswoman told CNN she spends her days doing occupational therapy and yoga, and she credits nurses and speech therapists with helping her every day. Read the full story here.
Texas PTs, patients, and advocates came together in support of direct access to physical therapy at a public hearing for HB 1039. Check out Allan Besselink's blog post for some background on this particular issue as well as next steps for those who would like to help support Texas PTs and patients.
Are you on Twitter? If so, do you get involved in Twitter chats for rehab therapy professionals? There is a great one for all PTs under the #SolvePT hashtag and an excellent chat for students under #DPTstudent. Additionally, throughout the month of April, check out the #OTmonth hashtag for all things occupational therapy.
Of course, these are just a few news stories making the rounds this week. You can also find us on Pinterest for useful infographics, marketing advice, and compliance resources.;

Today's blog post comes from Senior Writers Charlotte Bohnett and Erica Cohen.
It was 14 years ago when Brian Kunich launched his successful physical therapy career. After several years working in private practice, Brian discovered that while he was an excellent practitioner, as a clinic owner and manager he was at a serious disadvantage when it came to controlling clinic supply expenses. Because his priority—as it should be—was on treating his patients and growing his business, ordering clinical supplies became an after hours responsibility. Thus, time to shop around was at a premium.Determined to help clinics simplify the buying process—and save money—Brian mapped out a plan for an eCommerce platform. And he knew the perfect company to work with in order to bring his plan to fruition—WebPT, the same company who developed and delivered the ultimate EMR and practice management solution for rehab therapists. In October, 2011, Brian (a WebPT Member) attended WebPT’s first user conference, Evolve. There, he spoke with friend, former colleague, and WebPT Co-Founder Heidi Jannenga.

It’s April. And that means spring has sprung. Even though many across the country would argue that winter is still hanging on for dear life, the leaves will soon unfurl and the sun will shine. So what does this mean for you and your practice? It means now’s the time to shake off the winter doldrums and spring forward (see what I did there?) into new beginnings.Spring means energy, vibrancy, and positivity, so be sure to channel all of that into bettering your clinic. Consider a spring cleaning day or some sprucing up to freshen your practice’s decor or layout. Perhaps you can start new wellness initiatives in your community—like a walking program, community gardening, or Pilates at a park. You could also start new initiatives internally—going all digital with an EMR, starting a recycling program, enacting a reward program to improve patient exercise compliance, or launching an incentive program to improve your front desk’s patient copay collection.
Or maybe, this spring is the spring to go green. For example, WebPT has an office recycling program that even includes recycling all our shredded materials. We also enacted a smoking cessation program to improve our health and clean our air. Lastly, we collect cloth grocery bags for our home-building efforts in Mexico with Next Generation Philanthropy.
What better time to go green than spring? April does hold Earth Day, after all, which is why we’re devoting this month to conservation and the environment. However, we’re writing these blog posts from a small business perspective, because ultimately, while we want everyone to play their part in protecting and bettering our planet, we also want any green initiatives to benefit your practice—and your patients.
So tell me. What green best practices do you have? What conservation or DIY tips do you recommend? What do you want to know about saving money and time while being environmentally conscious?

Today’s blog post comes WebPT President and CTO Brad Jannenga

Earlier this month, I packed my bags and headed off to Washington DC along with Courtney Klein Johnson and Chris Petroff, founders of social incubator and fellow Phoenix tech startup, SeedSpot. Why were we heading to our nation’s capitol? Aside from wanting to see the famed cherry blossoms bloom, we were invited to take part in Startup America’s Champions Take DC event. Packed with amazing dialogue, brilliant insights, and lots of awesome people, the experience was a lot of things—exciting, educational, inspirational—but most of all extremely humbling.
Here are my top four most awe-inspiring moments: -

Last weekend, WebPT rolled out a new addition to the WebPT Medicare Allowable Fee Schedule and Cap Alert System: the Medicare Allowable Cap Report. We are so excited for this new feature launch that we thought we might take a few lines of our blog to walk through the WebPT Fee Schedule and Cap Alert System basics.

Last month we focused our blog theme on achieving greatness because we are 100% dedicated to helping you be successful in therapy practice. If you attended CSM 2013, you may have noticed our booth also had the “achieve greatness” theme. If you didn’t attend CSM, no worries. Here is a photo:

So why are we dedicated to helping the rehab community be better in business? Why are we determined to help elevate the profession? Because we friggin’ love ya (happy Valentine’s Day!). But also because we’re passionate about rehab therapy and the impact you all make daily on your patients’ lives. That’s in our roots. Co-Founder Heidi Jannenga is a physical therapist, and she created WebPT because she wanted to make an EMR solution that truly worked for her industry.
With this lovefest in mind, we created the “I Love Physical Therapy Because...” whiteboards and hoisted them up at CSM 2013 for all attendees to write on. The response was tremendous. Practicing therapists, educators, students, and fellow exhibitors all wrote on our boards. Everyone was very eager to share the love—and have their photos snapped:
